Teamsters offer disaster relief assistance in Alabama, Florida and Mississippi

CLEVELAND, May 16 — The Teamsters Disaster Relief Fund is accepting applications for assistance from members who live in Alabama, Florida and Mississippi after severe weather caused major damage to homes and property from April 28 through May 6, 2014.

Available from the BLET website are Teamster “Disaster Relief Alert Notices” and “Request for Help” forms. If you live in the affected area and experienced a loss due to this FEMA-declared major disaster, please download and submit the forms. For questions, contact the Teamsters Disaster Relief Fund office at (202) 624-8971.

ALABAMA

FEMA declared a major disaster in Alabama after severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds and flooding caused major damage to homes and property from April 28 to May 5, 2014. Members living in the following Alabama counties are eligible to apply: Baldwin, Blount, DeKalb, Etowah, Jefferson, Lee, Limestone, Mobile and Tuscaloosa.

FLORIDA

FEMA declared a major disaster in Florida after severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds and flooding caused major damage to homes and property from April 28 to May 6, 2014. Members living in the following Florida counties are eligible to apply: Escambia, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa and Walton.

MISSISSIPPI

FEMA declared a major disaster in Mississippi after severe storms, tornadoes and flooding caused major damage to homes and property from April 28 to May 3, 2014. Members living in the following Mississippi counties are eligible to apply: Itawamba, Jones, Leake, Lee, Lowndes, Madison, Montgomery, Rankin, Simpson, Warren, Wayne and Winston.

Be sure to include all requested documentation. The deadline for all applications is June 13, 2014.

HELP SPREAD THE WORD

To help increase awareness of this valuable benefit, members who live and work in the affected areas are asked to print and post these Disaster Relief Notices at their places of work. Previous notices are archived on the BLET National Division’s website, www.ble-t.org/disaster.

Also, members are advised that the BLET National Division does not administer this program. Questions regarding the application process, pending applications or other inquiries should be directed to the Teamsters Human Rights Commission at the telephone number provided above.
