BLET reaches tentative agreement with WNYP

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio, May 15 — The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) has reached a tentative agreement with the Western New York & Pennsylvania Railroad (WNYP). Ballots were mailed today to active members of the BLET employed by the WNYP who are eligible to vote in the ratification of this agreement.

Ballots are due by 2:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on Monday, June 15. The tentative agreement governs rates of pay, benefits and work rules for approximately a dozen members.

Members who are eligible and have not received a ratification packet by Friday, May 22 should call the National Division at (216) 241-2630, extension 222. When connected with the extension, please leave the following information:

• Your name, address and phone number;
• The division to which you belong;
• The date you were promoted to locomotive engineer;
• Your date of birth; and
• The last four digits of your Social Security number.

E-mail requests for ballots will not be accepted because personal information is required to verify eligibility before a ballot can be issued.

The WNYP membership belongs to Division 16 and is represented by the BLET’s Short Line Department.

BLET National President Dennis R. Pierce urged all eligible members to cast their ballots in the ratification process. “Union membership is not a spectator sport,” President Pierce said. “I encourage all of our WNYP Brothers to become educated on the issues and to participate in this most important process of union democracy.”

The WNYP main line extends for 190 miles from Hornell, on New York’s southern tier to Meadville in northwestern Pennsylvania. A branch 90 miles long extends from Machias, N.Y. to North Driftwood, Pa., cresting the Allegany Mountains at Keating Summit. Interchange is made with Norfolk Southern at Hornell, Meadville and North Driftwood, and with Buffalo & Pittsburgh Railroad at Salamanca, N.Y. and Corry, Pa. Interchange is also conducted with Oil Creek & Titusville Line (OCTL) at Rouseville, Pa. WNYP began independent operations in 2001 after concluding a long-term lease with Norfolk Southern and obtaining certain property tax abatements granted by Southern Tier Extension Rail Authority (STERA). WNYP is controlled by Livonia, Avon & Lakeville Railroad Corp. of Lakeville, N.Y.
