Norfolk Southern will shrink its workforce by 3,000 by 2021

NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk Southern has a plan to get leaner and it involves having 3,000 fewer workers by 2021. The company recently announced its plan to satisfy Wall Street by shrinking its operating ratio to 60 by 2021. The ratio, a goal Wall Street analysts like to see from railroad companies, is operating expenses as a percentage of revenue.
