Public hears more about high-speed rail through Alton

ALTON, Ill. — State and federal officials held a public hearing Thursday to discuss the alternatives for enhancing high-speed rail between Chicago and St. Louis.
Officials with the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Federal Railroad Authority presented several alternatives for improving the route as part of the Tier 1 Environmental Impact Study during a public hearing at Alton Holiday Inn. The alternatives that were narrowed down, and those being retained for a further study, along with their environmental impacts, were outlined in a Draft Environmental Impact Statement and presented to the public.
