Could Florida's SunRail survive governor's ax?

(The following appeared on the Orlando Sentinel website on March 7, 2011.)

ORLANDO, Fla. Now that Gov. Rick Scott has done away with the high-speed train and $2.4 billion in federal grants that came with it, many suspect he will turn his attention to SunRail and destroy the commuter train slated for Central Florida.

But is SunRail really doomed?

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer said he thinks Scott still could approve the local train, in part because the governor might not "view SunRail as a federal initiative. I think they view SunRail as a project brought in by local governments."

Perhaps more importantly, there is a CSX connection.
