High-speed rail may speed by West Texas

ABILENE, Texas — President Barack Obama wants to spend $53 billion in a six-year program to help build a high-speed rail network, with an ultimate goal of giving 80 percent of Americans access to such within 25 years.
But many in the Abilene area and elsewhere are at the least skeptical about the chances of locals hopping a bullet train to anywhere anytime soon — or even a quarter-century from now.
