Ballots mailed in tentative BLET, Alabama State Docks agreement

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio, February 6 — The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) has reached a tentative agreement with the Terminal Railway – Alabama State Docks (TRASD). Ballots were mailed today to active members of the BLET employed by TRASD who are eligible to vote in the ratification of this agreement.

Ballots are due by 2:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on Friday, March 8. The tentative agreement governs rates of pay, benefits and work rules for approximately 12 members.

Members who are eligible and have not received a ratification packet by Friday, February 15 should call the National Division at (216) 241-2630, extension 222. When connected with the extension, please leave the following information:

• Your name, address and phone number;
• The division to which you belong;
• The date you were promoted to locomotive engineer;
• Your date of birth; and
• Your Social Security number.

E-mail requests for ballots will not be accepted because personal information is required to verify eligibility before a ballot can be issued.

BLET National President Dennis R. Pierce urged all eligible members to participate in the ratification process. “The BLET is a participatory democracy and voting on contract agreements is one of the most important rights of every union member,” President Pierce said. “Every Alabama State Docks member who is eligible to vote should take an interest in the process and cast a vote on this tentative agreement.”

The Terminal Railway – Alabama State Docks operates on about 75 miles of track at the Port of Mobile in Mobile, Ala. It is a subsidiary of the Alabama State Port Authority. The BLET’s CSXT-Western Railroad Lines General Committee of Adjustment represents the union’s TRASD membership.
