Veterans Day 2018

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio, November 11 — For more than 155 years, the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen has proudly welcomed our fighting men and women home, and back to work. And on this Veterans Day, the BLET wants all of our veterans to know how thankful we are for your service to our Nation.
It is you, our veterans, who allow us to live, work and raise our families in freedom here in the U.S. You’ve stood strong for us, so the BLET wants you to know that we stand strong for you and your families.
Veterans Day is of particular importance to the membership of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen. Our Brotherhood was founded during the midst of the Civil War on May 8, 1863, and many of our earliest members were veterans of such battles as Bull Run, Shiloh, Antietam and Gettysburg. Since that time, our Organization has proudly represented members who served in World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Desert Shield, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Behind every soldier who serves is a family who also serves. Please join me in thanking not only our soldiers and veterans, but their families as well. Their sacrifice deserves our praise and is part of the reason our country remains strong and free.
In the BLET we have a saying: Proud to be American, Proud to be Union. We are just as proud of the men and women in uniform. Your sacrifices and devotion have protected our way of life and our freedoms for generations.
On behalf of the entire Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen, I offer thanks to all veterans and active-duty military on this Veteran’s Day 2018. We thank you and we salute you for everything you have done for our country. God bless.
