CSXT-Eastern Lines members urged to vote YES on Tentative National Agreement

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio, November 16 — The following is a statement from CSXT-Eastern Lines General Chairman Gary Best in support of the Tentative National Agreement.

To all CSXT Brothers and Sisters:

It is time once again for all BLET members to participate in the most sacred right available to us. We have the ability to determine our own destiny by voting on the proposed Tentative National Agreement. This right should not be taken lightly. Many who came before us have fought rigorously to guarantee the membership’s right to have a voice in determining our working conditions, wage increases and health care plans. The vast majority of Americans do not get the opportunity to make a personal choice regarding their pay, working conditions or health care. Ask your neighbors or family members if they would like to have a vote to determine their future. I anticipate their response would be a resounding, “hell yes I would vote.” I have already voted in favor of the tentative agreement and I encourage all of you to do the same. The voting process was easier than it has ever been. It took me all of 10 seconds on the phone to cast my vote.

I voted yes because in this political environment, we can ill afford to place our future in the hands of a Presidential Emergency Board or Congress. It is imperative that we seize this opportunity to control our own destiny rather than place our future in the hands of a Congressional majority with an obvious union animus. In closing, I offer a quote from President Theodore Roosevelt, “In a moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing.” I determined the right thing for me and my family was to vote yes for the tentative agreement. Understanding there are differing opinions, I urge everyone to express theirs by exercising your right to vote. Doing nothing is not an option for any of us.
