Officers of BLET Division 48 endorse Tentative National Contract

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio, November 15 — The President and Local Chairman of BLET Division 48 in St. Louis, Mo., have endorsed the Tentative National Contract and are encouraging their members also to vote YES on the deal. Their endorsements are as follows:

“With everything being as unstable as it is in the country right now, the best part about this tentative agreement is that it gives us stability right now. There are no work condition changes and there were a lot of changes that would have impacted the way we work every day. With those changes not in this contract, it’s just another plus for us. That’s why I am supporting this contract.”
— James R. Pedro, UPRR Locomotive Engineer, President of BLET Division 48, St. Louis, Mo., Hired out 19 years ago, BLET member since 2008

“I support this contract simply because it’s a good deal. Would I like to see more? Sure, who wouldn’t! It just isn’t good business to pass on a good deal. Yes, the copay goes up, and for our members who have families like mine that use it, sure, it’s gonna cost some more. But my question to them is this: Why are you not taking advantage of the Health Flexible Spending Account? I save hundreds every year because of the FSA, and this new contract is going to allow me to save even more because the benefits of the FSA are going up as well. If we let this go to a PEB and work rules get introduced, do you trust this administration with that kind of risk with a PEB? Ask an old head about the 1985 PEB...”
— Brian J. Young, UPRR Locomotive Engineer, Local Chairman of BLET Division 48, St. Louis, Mo., Hired out 15 years ago, BLET member since 2004
