Teamsters offer disaster relief assistance in Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio, April 1 — The Teamsters Disaster Relief Fund is offering assistance to members living in Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas after severe storms caused major damage to homes and property from March 7-9, 2016.

Available from the BLET website are Teamster “Disaster Relief Alert Notices” and “Request for Help” forms. If you live in the affected area and experienced a loss due to this FEMA-declared major disaster, please download and submit the forms. For questions, contact the Teamsters Disaster Relief Fund office at (202) 624-8971.

LOUISIANA

FEMA has declared a major disaster for the state of Louisiana, opening the way for the use of federal disaster funds for people affected by the severe storms and flooding that occurred on March 8.

Members living in the following Louisiana parishes are eligible to apply for Teamster assistance if they have suffered a loss due to this disaster: Allen, Ascension, Beauregard, Bienville, Bossier, Caddo, Calcasieu, Caldwell, Clairborne, DeSoto, Grant, Jackson, LaSalle, Livingston, Madison, Morehouse, Natchitoches, Ouachita, Rapides, Red River, Richland, Sabine, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Union, Vernon, Washington, Webster, West Carroll and Winn.

Be sure to include all requested documentation. The deadline for application is April 30, 2016.

MISSISSIPPI

FEMA has declared a major disaster for the state of Mississippi, opening the way for the use of federal disaster funds for people affected by the severe storms and flooding that occurred on March 9.

Members living in the following Mississippi counties are eligible to apply for Teamster assistance if they have suffered a loss due to this disaster: Bolivar, Coahoma and Washington.

TEXAS

FEMA has declared a major disaster for the state of Texas, opening the way for the use of federal disaster funds for people affected by the severe storms, tornadoes and flooding that occurred on March 7.

Members living in the following Texas counties are eligible to apply for Teamster assistance if they have suffered a loss due to this disaster: Jasper, Newton and Orange.

HELP SPREAD THE WORD

To help increase awareness of this valuable benefit, members who live and work in the affected areas are asked to print and post these Disaster Relief Notices at their places of work. Previous notices are archived on the BLET National Division’s website, www.ble-t.org/disaster.

Also, members are advised that the BLET National Division does not administer this program. Questions regarding the application process, pending applications or other inquiries should be directed to the Teamsters Disaster Relief Fund office at the telephone number provided above.
