BLET members ratify new contract with Indiana Rail Road
INDEPENDENCE, Ohio, December 19 — By a 5-to-1 majority, members of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen ratified a new collective bargaining agreement with the Indiana Rail Road (INRD).
Ballots were counted on December 5, 2019 and governs wages, benefits and work rules for approximately 50 members. The agreement runs through 2023 and provides compounded general wage increases of 20.35%, and retroactive back pay dating to June 30, 2017.
BLET National President Dennis R. Pierce recognized the negotiating team of National Vice President Alan Holdcraft, General Chairman Keith Kerley, and Division 204 Local Chairman Brandon Chattin.
“I thank Brothers Holdcraft, Kerley and Chattin for their efforts to bring this round of negotiations to a successful conclusion,” President Pierce said. “I also thank the Indiana Rail Road membership for their patience and participation throughout the negotiating and balloting process. Voting on your contract is one of the most important aspects of union membership.”
The BLET members who work for the INRD belong to Division 204 (Linton, Ind.), and they are a part of the CSXT-Western Railroad Lines General Committee of Adjustment. General Chairman Keith Kerley said one of the work rule changes in the new contract includes prorated guarantee earnings for the days assigned to the guaranteed extra board, eliminating the requirement of having to be assigned to the extra board for the entire work week to be entitled to guarantee pay so that Train Operators are now paid for the days available and not used for the number of days assigned. Another change gives Train Operators improved opportunities to work a sixth start at the overtime rate of pay
The Indianapolis-based Indiana Rail Road is a privately-held, 250-mile railroad based in Indianapolis. The company hauls the equivalent of more than 600,000 truckloads of consumer, industrial and energy products each year. The INRD serves central and southwest Indiana and central Illinois, with connections to the North American rail network and all Class I carriers via interchanges in Chicago, Indianapolis, Terre Haute, Oakland City, and Newton, Ill. Its major operating facilities are located in Indianapolis, Jasonville, Terre Haute, and Palestine, Ill.
