New York City companies turn to rail as truck congestion and freight costs soar

NEW YORK — At present, only 2% of New York City’s overall freight is carried by railcars. 5% of companies looking for warehouse space have indicated they want it to have direct rail service. This amenity is seen as particularly beneficial for companies that receive raw goods or heavy products that are expensive to transport long distances by truck.
