Amtrak asks for extra limits on 108-year-old swing-span bridge

NEWARK, N.J. — Amtrak is requesting the United States Coast Guard change the rules governing the operation of the 108-year-old Portal North Bridge. Amtrak is asking the Coast Guard to not allow the bridge to open during rush hour, start rush hour one hour earlier, eliminate exceptions of federal holidays from the days the rush hour rules apply and require 24-hour notice for all requested openings.
