Officials look at faster Amtrak service through St. Louis-Alton bottleneck

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Illinois transportation officials have launched a detailed study on how to increase train speeds between St. Louis and Alton, where a new station is to be built. It can take an hour to get about 25 miles between the stations, with trains sometimes slowing to a stop.
