High-speed rail cited as critical issue to downtown Springfield, Ill.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Increased traffic from high-speed passenger and freight trains is the big unknown for the future of downtown Springfield, local officials told a team of urban-design specialists from across the country Monday. The first day of a three-day visit by the Sustainable Design Assessment Team included a bus tour of more than two dozen residential, commercial and historic sites, ranging from the Enos Park neighborhood to the Dana-Thomas House.
