NS slow order bogs down high-speed Amtrak service in Michigan

CHICAGO — A slow order imposed by Norfolk Southern is adding as much as 90 minutes to the total scheduled trip time of 5-1/2 hours for Amtrak trains traveling between Chicago and Detroit. NS cited safety concerns for imposing the slow order, due to poorly maintained track in the area between Kalamazoo, Mich., to Ann Arbor, Mich. Now trains must go 25 mph on some sections of track instead of 79 mph.
