Durbin criticizes proposed House bill to cut Amtrak

(Source: Chicago Sun-Times, October 16, 2011)

CHICAGO — U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL_ was critical of a bill that would seriously hurt Amtrak and his home state of Illinois in an interview with the Chicago Sun-Times, published October 16. The bill would cut Amtrak's budget by 60 percent, eliminate local routes in Illinois, and would prohibit Amtrak from using any federal funds to help states pay for state supported routes. The bill also provides no money for high-speed and intercity rail projects.
