New York group endorses CSX plan for higher rail speed

ALBANY, N.Y. — The state's major passenger rail advocacy group, in an effort to get tens of millions of dollars worth of stalled rail projects rolling across upstate, has endorsed CSX Transportation's push for a 90 mph speed limit west of Schenectady.

The state Department of Transportation had sought a top speed of 110 mph, which CSX said would endanger its freight trains and crews, who share the tracks with Amtrak.

The Empire State Passengers Association issued a statement Monday backing the 90 mph plan.
