Pipe bomb explodes at Metra station

(The Associated Press circulated the following article on September 1.)

HINSDALE, Ill. -- Police are investigating the explosion of a small pipe bomb in a garbage can at the Metra train station in the Chicago suburb of Hinsdale today.

Authorities say the blast caused minimal damage and no injuries.

A suspect was detained by Metra police at Chicago's Union Station after taking a train from Hinsdale following the incident.

Police say they have no reason to believe the incident was a terrorist act, but Deputy Chief Mark Mandarino says the motive for the pipe bombing isn't immediately known. He says officers are questioning the suspect.

Metra spokeswoman Meg Reile says the incident didn't affect operations
