BLE compiles 'target list' of non-cosponsors

CLEVELAND, May 3 -- With 337 co-sponsors in the House and 54 in the Senate, the Railroad Retirement and Survivors' Improvement Act of 2001 has received overwhelming bipartisan support.

Below is the BLE's "target list" of Senators and Representatives who have not yet signed on to support this much-needed legislation.

H.R. 1140 and S. 697 would provide long-needed improvements in the surviving spouse benefit, full retirement annuity at age 60 with 30 years of service, elimination of artificial caps on benefits, vesting after five years instead of 10, and provisions that require the carriers to insure future fund solvency with future tax increases if necessary.

The AFL-CIO's Transportation Trades Department has created a section on its website that allows affiliated members to send e-mail to their Senators and Representatives in support of H.R. 1140 and S. 697. Using the "target list" below, members can e-mail their legislators in Washington via the following link:
