EUMA scholarship deadline extended to June 30
CLEVELAND, June 18 -- The deadline for BLE members to apply for a scholarship through the Eastern Union Meeting Association (EUMA) has been extended to June 30.
The quickest way to obtain a scholarship application is at the BLE website. Members may also obtain scholarship applications through their division local chairmen or secretary-treasurer.
EUMA awards $1,000 scholarships based on academic excellence and financial need.
EUMA Secretary-Treasurer Gary Brink reports that only children of members (living or deceased) belonging to divisions participating in the EUMA are eligible to apply. He further emphasizes that the division must be square on the books for the child to qualify.
In 1998, EUMA officers modified its application form to comply with the advice of educators who review candidates. As a result, only this newer application is acceptable. These newer forms are identified by the marking, "Form EUEDAP-03/98" on the bottom of the application. A copy is available for download and printing as a PDF file on the BLE website.
In addition to the above, applicants must provide a copy of their SAT scores, their college admission papers, and a copy of their last marking period or grades for the last semester completed in order to be eligible. EUMA scholarships are only available to students at the undergraduate level; graduate students are not eligible. Late 2001 spring semester transcripts will be accepted for applications already on file. Incomplete scholarships will not be accepted.
States represented in EUMA are Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Vermont, and Washington D.C.
Scholarship award winners are usually announced at the formal banquet during the annual EUMA convention. This year's EUMA will be August 20-24 in Atlantic City, N.J.
