Court dismisses case to derail BLE-UTU merger vote

CLEVELAND, September 6 -- The U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, on its own motion, dismissed a lawsuit today that was brought by three members of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers (BLE) seeking to void the UTU-BLE merger vote.

U.S. District Judge Frederic N. Smalkin found that Baltimore was not the proper location to bring the case.

The suit was filed August 30, 2001, against the BLE, with the United Transportation Union (UTU) named as an interested party.
