Advisory Board backs Dubroski decision on merger
CLEVELAND, July 31 -- After a comprehensive review of the proposed Unification Agreement and Constitution that would effect a merger between the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers (BLE) and the United Transportation Union (UTU), an overwhelming majority of the BLE's Advisory Board voted this weekend to support President Edward Dubroski's decision to refer the merger proposal to the BLE's rank and file membership, pursuant to Section 1(e) of the BLE Constitution.
In adopting a resolution of support, the Board voiced its agreement "that the future of the craft of Locomotive Engineer and the collective bargaining rights and working conditions, including seniority, of locomotive engineers shall be decided by the vote of the BLE rank and file."
At press time, the printer's proof of the documents was undergoing a final review, prior to printing and mailing next week. U.S. General Chairmen and State Legislative Board Chairmen will meet in Cleveland later this week, and Canadian General Chairmen and Provincial Legislative Board Chairmen will meet early next week for informational sessions on the proposal.
