A ground service employee was reportedly hit by a remote control
locomotive in the Kansas City Southern yard in Baton Rouge, La., on
March 14. The operator of the belt pack was riding in the cab of the
locomotive and operating in the long nose forward position. An employee
was riding the nose of the locomotive. The injured employee was crossing
between tracks in the rain and was struck by the locomotive, resulting
in the loss of one foot and one hand. He also suffered a punctured lung.
