Call to mobilize over Right-to-Work law in Missouri

The following is a message from Brian Kelley, BLET Missouri SLB Chairman concerning the Right-to-Work law in Missouri:

Dear Missouri BLET Members,

URGENT ACTION REQUIRED FROM ALL BLET MEMBERS, THEIR FAMILIES, AND WORKING CLASS AMERICANS LIVING IN MISSIOURI.

Every BLET member in the State of Missouri and their family members are being urged to contact their State Representative regarding House Bill 1770 starting Monday morning April 7th. HB 1770 is a divisive piece of legislation that will ask Missouri voters to decide if Missouri should become a Right-to-Work (work for less) State.

Please call your State Representative, tell them you are a constituent and politely ask them to vote “NO” on HB 1770. You may not actually talk with the legislator directly so please be respectful to their staff member when talking with them. If they should ask why you are against this bill you can use the following points:

1. Right to work bills like HB 1770 are big government interfering with private businesses. Corporations should be able to make agreements with their employees that best suit their business model. This legislation restricts that ability so I am opposed to it.

2. Workers in so called Right-to-Work states have lower wages, higher poverty, less access to health care and poorer education for their children. I want us to raise our standards not lower them.

You may locate your legislator at this link: http://www.house.mo.gov/legislatorlookup.aspx?

If you have any questions or need any assistance please call me at this number: 816-786-8475

Thank you for your involvement. It is much needed and much appreciated.

Fraternally,

Brian Kelley
BLET Missouri State Legislative Board Chairman

National President Pierce thanked Chairman Kelley for taking the lead on this important issue and called for all BLET Members and all Rail Conference members to mobilize on this important issue.
