Express Scripts implements emergency prescription plan for Hurricane Sandy

CLEVELAND, October 30 — On October 27, a State of Emergency was declared in Maryland, Virginia, Washington D.C., New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania in anticipation of Hurricane Sandy.

Due to these declarations, Express Scripts has implemented its “Emergency Refill Too Soon Procedures” for the affected states.

Effective immediately, if a patient from the disaster area attempts to fill a prescription for lost or damaged medication resulting from Hurricane Sandy, and the claim rejects with a Reject 79 “Refill Too Soon,” the pharmacy should enter override code 91100000001 in NCPDP vD.0 field 462-EV “Prior Auth Number Submitted.” A blast communication reminder has been sent to all Express Scripts pharmacies as a reminder of this process.

This override code should be used to process claims only for affected members in the above states and areas through November 27. Members with questions should contact Express Scripts using the toll-free telephone number on your ID card.
