Enrollment for Health Flexible Spending Account begins soon

CLEVELAND, August 30 — BLET members should watch their mailboxes in coming weeks for a post card from Railroad Enrollment Services regarding a Health Flexible Spending Account (Health FSA) program.

The post card will inform members who work at participating railroads that they may join the Health FSA for the 2013 Plan Year during the Open Enrollment period this fall. The Health FSA program for 2013 will start January 1, 2013 and end on December 31, 2013.

“The establishment of the Health FSA was a substantial improvement over the recommendations of Presidential Emergency Board 243 and represents a victory for our members. It gives our members the ability to realize significant health care savings. I encourage all eligible members to participate in this worthwhile program,” BLET National President Dennis R. Pierce said.

The Health FSA program will allow you to put aside your own dollars on a pre-tax basis to be available for reimbursement — to you — of eligible and qualified health care expenses not covered by your medical, vision, or dental plans, as well as other approved Health and Welfare expenses, for which coverage is not afforded.

In addition, please watch for your personalized enrollment package coming in late September. The package will contained detailed information about your enrollment options for 2013, including the Health FSA Program, and the new online enrollment process (http://www.ble-t.org/pr/news/newsflash.asp?id=5308).

During the open enrollment period, go to the Railroad Information Depot (http://www.rrinfodepot.com) where you can access the Railroad Enrollment Services secure portal through the Alerts and Important Dates section.

The enrollment portal will be available 24/7 during the enrollment period this fall. If you do not enroll in the Health FSA program during this time period, you will not be able to enroll in it until next year’s open enrollment period. If you need assistance, have questions or require a paper enrollment kit (once open enrollment begins), please call Railroad Enrollment Services at (800) 753-2692.

A copy of the Health FSA post card is available here as a PDF.
