Union Pacific making infrastructure improvements in Missouri, Nebraska

OMAHA, Neb. Union Pacific Railroad will strengthen Missouri's transportation infrastructure by investing $9 million in the rail line between Sedalia and Pleasant Hill, Missouri. The project, funded entirely by Union Pacific without taxpayer dollars, began May 15 and is scheduled to be completed by the end of June.

The railroad will replace 60,500 railroad ties and install 22,300 tons of rock ballast. In addition, crews will renew the surfaces at 80 road crossings and install more than one mile of rail in various curves. The project is one of nearly 1,500 that Union Pacific will complete across its 32,000-mile network this year to help improve train operating efficiency, reduce motorist wait times at crossings and enhance safety.

The railroad also plans to strengthen Nebraska's transportation infrastructure by investing $39.5 million in the rail line between Clarks and Schuyler, Nebraska. The project, funded entirely by Union Pacific without taxpayer dollars, began May 6 and is scheduled to be completed by mid-July.

The railroad will replace 115,000 concrete railroad ties and renew the surfaces at 15 road crossings. Crews also will install 15 switches and nearly 44 miles of new rail. The project is one of nearly 1,500 that Union Pacific will complete across its 32,000-mile network this year to help improve train operating efficiency, reduce motorist wait times at crossings and enhance safety.
