UP derailment highlights rail safety in El Paso

EL PASO, Texas — A Union Pacific train derailment on Friday, October 18 in central El Paso was the first derailment in El Paso County in at least a decade, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Railroad Administration. While no injuries were reported as a result of the derailment, the incident highlights the ever present potential for disasters caused by trains and the cargo they carry.
