Lac-Megantic: Unknown additives may have made oil more volatile

MONTREAL — The 72-car train that derailed in Lac-Mégantic on July 6 was loaded with oil drawn from the Bakken formation of North Dakota. Evidence gathered so far suggests that the crude oil “reacted in an abnormal way” and may have been unusually volatile, a Transportation Safety Board spokesperson said.
