MMA's insurance policies won't cover costs from Lac-Megantic disaster

MONTREAL — The Montreal, Maine & Atlantic Railway holds at least two insurance policies, but neither will come close to covering recovery costs in Lac-Mégantic. In court documents filed on Tuesday, MMA estimated that environmental cleanup costs alone will reach over $200 million. The company is also facing several lawsuits and claims from dozens of people and companies affected by the explosion, which killed 47 people and destroyed most of the small town’s centre.
