Alaska Railroad announces layoffs due to financial decline

FAIRBANKS, Alaska — The Alaska Railroad announced today that 29 people will be laid off as part of a corporate restructuring effort following a $45 million change in finances since 2011. A news release from the railroad said that 54 positions total are being eliminated but that 25 are vacant.
