Retirement of Michigan Senator Levin leaves Democrats defending fourth open seat in 2014 cycle

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Longtime Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich.) won't seek another Senate term, leaving Democrats to defend a fourth open seat in 2014. He is the fourth Democrat to announce his retirement ahead of the 2014 midterms, following Sens. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.), Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.) and Tom Harkin (D-Iowa).
