Opinion: It's no futuristic fantasy, high-speed trains from Indy to Chicago

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — For thousands of residents of Indiana and Illinois, few chores are more tedious than making the long and costly drive between Indianapolis and Chicago. Despite the closely interwoven commercial, civic and cultural ties between these metropolitan areas, there is no efficient and affordable way to travel between them.

Using proven technology, high-speed trains could cut the Indy-Chicago trip down to just 90 minutes, with fares less than the true cost of driving. Today’s journey would be transformed into a commute.
