Opinion: ALEC isn't for the little guy

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — Americans are getting wise to the lasting damage caused by the American Legislative Exchange Council - the corporate-bill mill known primarily for pushing discriminatory voter ID laws through statehouses across the country. Just six weeks from election day, we are inundated with news about how ALEC's work to roll back voting rights is failing to pass judicial scrutiny, creating havoc for elections officials, and threatening to keep millions of eligible voters from the polls. Underhanded legislative maneuvering designed to kill competition and protect entrenched special interests is ALEC's bread and butter. ALEC's destructive agenda has real impact on everyday people's lives, but working together, we have the power to hold it accountable.
