CSXT, chemical shipper complete track upgrades
(The following appeared on the Progressive Railroading website on November 5, 2009.)
Earlier this week, CSX Transportation and INVISTA marked the completion of expanded track and other infrastructure improvements at the chemical manufacturer’s Spartanburg, S.C., plant.
The Class I and INVISTA worked jointly during the past year to rework and expand the track layout at the facility, which produces chemical intermediates, polymers, resins and fibers for polyester applications. The project called for adding about 26,000 feet of track and re-routing a mainline to eliminate interference from passing trains.
Now, INVISTA anticipates “more flexible and efficient” rail-car delivery and pick-up service from CSXT, said Chris Hamman, president of the firm’s polymer and resins division, in a prepared statement.
